Balance of Power by Undercover

Broken Records release 7100516676 (UPC 080688068424)

It sounded like a completely different band than that of 3-28-87. The music, though was very solid... nice touches like the left and right speaker guitars in The Way of The Rose made it more than just another rock album. Dark. Moody. Almost metallic, the heaviest album in the UC oeuvre.

Band Members:
Ojo Taylor - Keyboards/Bass
Gym - Guitars, background vocals

What a powerhouse rocking album!! This is the coolest album from one of the most UNsuspecting bands. There is not a bad song in the bunch. Highly listenable.

Many reasons for their heavy departure in sound. Also at this time, Taylor's Mother was diagnosed with cancer. The band was angry and depressed about other issues too and it reflects in the music and lyrics.

"(Without) the BALANCE OF POWER...the world come crashing down"

Even though the music is not like Barren Cross, the vocals take on an edginess of Mike Lee (BC) at times. Interesting that Sim can change vocal styles so much in one album and from album to album.

Track 4 is musically my favorite
The last track is one of the most divine love songs

I wished they had stayed with the formula of this album. But I do not wish for a bands life to be turned upside down in order to inspire such heaviness. Later, Ojo would proclaim this was his least favorite album. He resented the metal label briefly attached to them.

I have this on Cassette: the first side is hard-hitting, and powerful; a timeless Album.
